HW 44 - Big Expectations for School

I think the purpose of a liberal arts education and all other forms of education is to assit students in making sense of the complex and interdependent world around them. Its meant to develop their analytical and problem-solving skills, with hopes of shaping them in to people who question and challenge the unsolved problems of the world around them.

Some argue that all other forms of education only keep students in a narrow box with little insight into the bigger issues of science, society, human community, global cultures or true knowledge . Stating such programs may allow students to graduate,go to a good college, acquire jobs, but they do not prepare students to navigate a world that is ever so changing. But I would argue that a liberal arts education does not live up to its on hype either. Both forms have a great intentions, but as the phrase goes the way to hell is paved with good intentions. I don't think either and this comes from my own personal experience prepare students for life.Because how can you truly prepare or teach one for something that follows no guidelines.

I don't know about you but I don't think theirs a way to teach someone to deal with terminal cancer or the death of parent. These are all things have to be self taught through trial and error, through love and hurt. So no form of education liberal or not can teach life or really even how to plan for it . But I do believe all education if done right can give the knowledge to those who want it to have the basic skills to weather the storms. Because tho it cant prepare or teach one to deal with their mother who is dieing of cancer , it can give them the skills to acquire a job to be able to take care of their mother in whatever composite.
